He's Here At Last!
When asked by the Search Committee what gifts and interest he brings to Holy Spirit, David McNair mentioned a number of areas, beginning with the core of his faith, saying, “I have a passion for Jesus and the joy that comes from living and working in a faith community.”
Besides his long experience with youth, both teaching and program design, David McNair is skilled as a centering prayer leader. He has a reverence for liturgy and is looking forward to the many community outreach ministries in Madison County, outreach being a primary focus of Holy Spirit since its founding.
Son of a Baptist minister, David M. McNair was born in Virginia and moved with his family to West Virginia. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1988 and received an M.Div. degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1993. After graduating from Wake Forest, McNair worked as a camp counselor and came to the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina as youth minister at St. James Church. He was camp director at Camp Henry in 1996 and served as Canon for Youth in the diocese from 1998 until 2007. David earned a certificate in Anglican Studies from the University of the South School of Theology in 2008 and was ordained as an Episcopal priest in that year.
David is married to Lynn Michie, who, herself an ordained Presbyterian Minister, is the chaplain at the Women’s Correctional Center in Swannanoa. They have two children: Sadie, age 9, and Simon, age 6.
