The Church of the Holy Spirit is a rural Episcopal parish located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, north of Asheville, near the college town of Mars Hill in Madison County. This is a welcoming, loving Christian community, committed to serving God, one another and our neighbors.
The Church of the Holy Spirit arose from a vision, not a demographic study or strategic plan. Popular wisdom had it that there would never be an Episcopal Church in Madison County, yet twenty-five years have gone by since the first gathering.
Many have come to Holy Spirit from other denominations, choosing this parish for its warm Christian community. We accept others for who they are and welcome anyone, regardless of their social, political, and theological views.
We have potlucks, we hug each other, and we laugh a lot. Most of us have horses, dogs, and cats (or combinations thereof), and don't mind telling you all about them. We wear jeans, T-shirts, and Birkenstocks to our worship service, as well as more formal garb. Wear what feels comfortable to you.

First Wednesday of the Month
6:00pm Pot Luck Supper followed by Eucharist
Lent
Each Wednesday during Lent we will gather for a simple soup-and-bread meal followed by a teaching and conversation. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. We will meet each Wednesday until Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday, April 1.
